CORONA, CA: The Southern California Open Division Regional Final is set to deliver high-stakes basketball action as #5 Roosevelt faces #16 Notre Dame. This Tuesday’s championship features Tyran Stokes, the nation’s top-ranked 2026 prospect, whose dominance has transformed Notre Dame into a title contender.
This matchup is a rematch of their March 1 contest where Roosevelt won 74-67. Stokes has elevated his game since that loss, looking determined to change the outcome.
Recruiting experts confirm Stokes as the clear #1 player in the 2026 class. His rare blend of size, skill and basketball IQ draws NBA comparisons. The 6’8″ forward with a 7’1″ wingspan has dominated Notre Dame’s playoff run, averaging 24.6 points, 15.2 rebounds and 3.8 blocks.
“Tyran controls the game completely,” says Notre Dame coach Robert Icart. “His development over the past six months has been remarkable.”
Elite Talent on Display
Roosevelt counters with McDonald’s All-American Brayden Burries, who scored 30 points in the semifinals. The Mustangs thrive with their uptempo attack led by Burries and guard Myles Walker.
Notre Dame relies on Stokes’ paint presence and rebounding prowess. His 17 rebounds in the semifinals showcased his dominance. NaVorro Bowman Jr. provides backcourt firepower, leading with 23 points in their semifinal win.
“What makes Stokes special isn’t just his physical gifts,” notes recruiting analyst Eric Bossi. “His basketball intelligence sets him apart – he reads defenses like a veteran.”
Championship Stakes
Both programs seek their first Open Division title. For Stokes, this game offers another opportunity to show why he’s the nation’s top prospect.
College coaches from Duke Blue Devils, Kentucky Wildcats, and UCLA Bruins are expected to attend. Stokes’ recruitment remains open, with a reported preference for programs with strong NBA development.
The winner will likely finish among the top 10 teams nationally in High School Basketball rankings.
“We know what we’re up against in Tyran,” says Roosevelt coach Stephen Singleton. “He’s special – but we have our own stars ready for the big stage.”
This championship isn’t just a game. It’s a preview of basketball’s future, showcasing tomorrow’s college and NBA stars competing today.
