LINCOLN, NE: Nebraska’s 2027 recruiting class is already generating fireworks, with quarterback commit Trae Taylor emerging as a catalyst for the Nebraska Cornhuskers‘ pursuit of elite skill talent. Four-star Texas wide receiver Antayvious Ellis now headlines a growing list of prospects intrigued by Nebraska’s future offensive vision.

Trae Taylor’s Early Influence on 2027 Class

Nebraska secured a program-defining commitment when Trae Taylor (La Grange, IL), the No. 11 overall 2027 prospect per Rivals, chose the Huskers over Power 4 competitors. The 6’2″, 195-pound quarterback’s pledge has triggered a domino effect, with four-star WR Antayvious Ellis openly flirting with Nebraska shortly after Taylor’s decision.

Ellis, a 6’2″, 180-pound playmaker from Crowley High School (TX), tweeted “Wassup GBR nation!?😏😁 #GBR” alongside Nebraska graphics just days after Taylor’s announcement. The No. 62 overall recruit in Rivals’ 2027 rankings followed with a coy “😉”, signaling serious interest in forming an early connection with his potential future QB.

Antayvious Ellis: A Potential Package Deal?

Ellis’ recruitment is heating up nationally, with offers from Texas, Oklahoma State, and others. Nebraska’s pitch now centers on pairing him with Taylor:

  • Position: Wide Receiver
  • Class: 2027
  • Ranking: 4-star (No. 62 overall, Rivals)
  • Strengths: Vertical speed, contested-catch ability, red-zone dominance

“Trae’s commitment changed how I look at Nebraska,” Ellis told Prospect Radar. “Having a QB who wants to build something special matters.”

Peer Recruiting Strategy Takes Center Stage

Taylor isn’t waiting for coaches to seal the deal. The Illinois standout has actively courted five-star 2027 TE Ahmad Hudson, mirroring tactics used by former Nebraska QB target Dylan Raiola. This player-driven approach aligns with head coach Matt Rhule‘s emphasis on cultivating leadership within recruiting classes.

Nebraska’s 2027 blueprint prioritizes explosive offensive pairings, drawing inspiration from Ohio State‘s historic QB-WR tandems. Ellis’ social media engagement suggests the Huskers are gaining traction in a battle typically dominated by SEC programs.

What’s Next for Nebraska’s 2027 Class

Ellis plans to monitor Nebraska’s offensive evolution this fall, particularly Taylor’s development and the Huskers’ scheme under coordinator Glenn Thomas. Summer visits could accelerate his timeline, while Taylor continues lobbying for a Texas-to-Nebraska pipeline.

With peer recruiting now a cornerstone of Rhule’s strategy, the Huskers aim to transform early buzz into commitments that reshape the Big Ten‘s future hierarchy.
