Scout’s Note — March 28, 2026
The 2026 guard class is historically deep at the top, with three legitimate first-round passers — Fernando Mendoza, Arch Manning, and Garrett Nussmeier — capable of going in the top 12 picks, a concentration of QB talent not seen since the 2021 class. By contrast, the edge rusher tier beyond Rueben Bain Jr. drops sharply, with no clear-cut second EDGE prospect commanding a top-20 grade at this stage of the evaluation cycle. Teams building through the pass rush should expect to pay a premium for Bain Jr. or pivot to Day 2, where three to four developmental rushers carry legitimate starter upside.
