COLUMBUS, OHIO: Max Riley, a four-star interior offensive lineman, has committed to Ohio State of the Big Ten, choosing the Buckeyes over Clemson and more than 20 other Power Four programs. The 6-foot-3.5, 265-pound prospect from Avon Lake High School ranks as the No. 133 overall prospect and No. 8 IOL in the 2026 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. “As a kid from Avon Lake, Ohio it was always my goal to play for the world famous Ohio State Buckeyes,” Riley wrote on X, announcing his decision. His commitment gives head coach Ryan Day’s 2026 class another blue-chip prospect and represents a significant in-state recruiting victory for the College Football powerhouse.
Elite Technical Skills Make Riley Perfect Fit for Buckeyes’ Offensive Scheme
Riley showcases exceptional mobility and technical prowess for an interior offensive lineman, with the versatility to play multiple positions along the offensive front. “Max displays outstanding fundamentals in both run blocking and pass protection, showing a natural bend and powerful punch that translates immediately to the next level,” according to On3’s scouting assessment.
During his sophomore season, Riley anchored an offensive line that paved the way for over 2,500 rushing yards at Avon Lake High School. His relationship with offensive line coach Tyler Bowen proved pivotal in his decision. “I’ve spoken to Coach Bowen quite a bit,” Riley told Lettermen Row earlier this month. “He told me he thinks we would mesh well and he continues to believe that I’m a good fit for the program.”

Ohio State’s 2026 Class Strengthens with Another Top In-State Commitment
Riley becomes the fifth commitment in Ohio State’s 2026 class and the second-highest ranked pledge behind Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei five-star wide receiver Chris Henry Jr., the No. 14 prospect nationally. He joins fellow in-state four-star athlete Jakob Weatherspoon from Avon, who committed on January 2, cementing the Buckeyes’ recruiting momentum in Ohio.
Despite Clemson of the ACC making a strong push with their recent hot streak on the recruiting trail, the Ohio native opted to stay close to home. With his commitment secured, Riley will now turn his attention to helping Ohio State build its 2026 class, which currently ranks among the top 10 nationally.
